Taj Tours IndiaLocated in the Umaria district of Madhya Pradesh with an area of 105 km², Bandhavgarh was declared a National Park in1968 and is one of the largest national parks in India. This park has a large biodiversity with good density of the tiger population in India. Bandhavgarh has a thick forest area too that makes this place a favourite amongst the flora lovers. The park has a large breeding population of panthers, bisons and various species of deer. Tigers of Bandhavgarh are the biggest attractions of this national park. The park is popular for it very high density of tigers and big cats that are found in different moods in the various parts of the jungle.

In addition to its big cat population, Bandhavgarh also inhabits 37 species of mammals, more than 250 species of birds, about 70 species of butterflies, a number of reptiles. The state of peace, calm and richness makes this park a habitat for large number of species. The natural greenery of grasslands invites pairs of Sarus Cranes to breed in the rainy season. The animals of Bandhavgarh move freely within the park and can be seen in their natural moods.

The vegetation along streams and morasses make this park a favourite place for birds. The common birds which you can find here are little grabe, egret lesser teal, white eyed bustard, black Kite, serpent eagles, black vulture, Egyptian vulture, common peafowl, red jungle fowl, dove, parakeet, king-fisher, Indian roller and the Indian National bird Indian peacock. The place will not disappoint you if you have interest in reptiles. You can watch cobra, krait, viper, rat snake, python, turtle and number of Lizard varieties including varanus.

Best time to Visit. Winters, summer and monsoons are the three best season to visit Bandhavgarh Park. During winters from October to February, during summers from March to June and during monsoons from July to October you can plan your holidays accordingly. Bandhavgarh park is closed for public from July 01 to September 15.


Safaris
You can explore and enjoy your journey inside the park in two ways, either on Elephant back or in a motor vehicle. Jeep Safaris are also available but only twice in a day from dawn till 10am and from 4pm until dusk as the animals are more active during this course of time. A Forest Department Guide must always accompany you. Elephants are used by Forest Department for tiger-Tracking, if a tiger is found then the guide will take you directly to the tiger either from the lodge or from a nearby point reached by car/jeep to have a glance of the tiger.

The Fort: Bandhavgarh fort which is around 2,000 years old famous for its rich glory is also a place to visit.

The Shesh Shaya: The statue of Lord Vishnu in lying position with umbrella of “ Shesh Nag” along with “ The Shivaling “ and the statue of “Brahma”are situated there. River “Charan ganga” from the foot of the “ Lord Vishnu” is also there to visit.
