Guru Arjan Sahib, the Vth Guru, visualized the grand idea of having a central place of worship for the Sikhs and later came upfront to design the architecture of the Sri Harmandir Sahib as well. After the project got completed in 1577 A.D, Guru Arjan Sahib selected a famous Muslim saint, Hazrat Mian Mir ji of Lahore to lay its foundation in December, 1588.

A distinctive concord between the Muslims and the Hindus way of construction is seen in the architecture of the Golden Temple, and it’s also rated as the best architectural sample of the world. It is also true that this revered architecture has given rise to a sovereign Sikh school of architecture and changed the entire history of art in India.

There is no any specific time to visit the Golden Temple at Amritsar and any time of the year can be selected. People from all religions come here to visit the temple according to their convenience as it’s a site to be visited throughout the year with the same fervour and zeal.

How to reach Amritsar

Reaching Amritsar, the city of Golden Temple is a simple task due to fine facilities of all modes of transportations.

Air: The Rajasansi airport is now an international airport at Amritsar and maintains a fine service by flights to all over India.

Rail: There are direct trains from Delhi to Amritsar that take about 8-10-hours. Besides, trains form almost all major Indian cities can be had to reach Amritsar.

Road: Road links Amritsar superbly to all parts of India and offers buses regularly.

Day 01 - Arrive Delhi
Taj Tours IndiaOn arrival you are transferred to your hotel. Afternoon a half-day visit to Gurudwara Sis Ganj, Gurudwara Bangla Sahib and Gurudwara Rakab Ganj. Overnight at hotel.

Day 2 : Delhi/Chandigarh/Parivar Vichhora/Anandpur Sahib/Chandigarh
Drive to Chandigarh ( 238 kms/05 hours). Check in at hotel. Afternoon visit Parivar Vichorra ( 52 kms/02 hrs ) and drive to Anandpur Sahib ( 30 kms/01 hr ) - fortress temple situated on the left bank of the river Satluj founded by the ninth Sikh guru , Guru Tegh Bahadur. It was here that the Sikh religion acquired its final military character. Drive back to Chandigarh. Overnight at hotel.

Day 3 : Drive Chandigarh / Amritsar
Morning sightseeing tour of Chandigarh , visiting the Museum , High Court , Assembly Chamber and Rock Garden. Afternoon drive to Amritsar ( 250 kms/06.50 hrs ) , situated on the north – western border of the country. The 400 years old city , founded by the fourth guru of the Sikhs , Guru Ramdas , has been the seat of the Sikh religion and culture from its very inception. It is renowned for the famous Golden Temple. Amritsar , literally – ‘Pool of Nectar’ , erives its name from the holy pond around the temple. The land for the pool was gifted by the Moghul Emperor Akbar. Check in at hotel on arrival. Overnight at hotel.

Day 4 : In Amritsar
Morning a half-day tour of Amritsar City. Rest of the day is at leisure. Overnight at hotel.

Day 5 : In Amritsar
Morning a half-day tour of Amritsar City. Rest of the day is at leisure. Overnight at hotel.

Day 6 : Train Amritsar / Delhi
Morning you are transferred to the railway station to board train to Delhi. On arrival you are transferred to your hotel. Rest of the day is at leisure. Overnight at hotel.

Day 7 : Depart Delhi
Today you are transferred to the airport to board your flight for onward journey.
