The Himalayan shrines of Char Dham - Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath have great significance for those devotees who search for salvation and wish to fulfil their experience. Char Dham is basically a term that has been attributed to the four most holy pilgrimages of India - Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath.

Origin of the name Char Dham comprises some ancient links and it’s believed that saints and pilgrims in search for heavenly bliss had gone to that extent and coined it as “Kedarkhand". Typically, the yatra had to be finished from the west to the east, setting-off from Yamunotri to Gangotri before finally landing lastly to Kedarnath and Badrinath.

Pilgrims now on their Char Dham yatra first start a trip to Yamunotri and Gangotri and proceed all the way with having the sacred waters from the sources of the rivers Yamuna and Ganga. The tendering abhishekams to Kedareshwara comes soon after that stage. Starting form Haridwar - Rishikesh - Deo Prayag - Tehri - Dharasu - Yamunotri - Uttarkashi - Gangotri - Triyugnarayan – Gaurikund and finally to Kedarnath is the course followed by the devotees taking up the Char Dham Yatra. The Hindu rituals of parikrama are experienced during the Yatra. The Chardham are often visited from left to right –starting form Yamunotri to Gangotri, Kedarnath and finally ending it at Badrinath.
